As was stated in a previous update, Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 370’s (HCMUD 370) contract for residential garbage service with Texas Pride expired earlier this year. Prior to the expiration, HCMUD 370 evaluated various options for service. With warm weather conditions in Houston it was decided that a twice a week pick-up schedule was desirable. HCMUD 370 was only able to identify two companies which still provide service twice per week: Texas Pride and Best Trash. The decision was made to change service providers and contract with Best Trash.
The new contract, which became effective March 1, 2024, necessitated a monthly rate increase in the combined sewer and garbage rate from $34.07 to $40.03 per residence. This new rate goes into effect August 1, 2024 and will be reflected with your next month’s TNG Utility bill. HCMUD 370 has entered into a five-year contract with Best Trash which only allows rate increases tied to the Houston-area CPI.
This is the first rate increase in the last five years to be passed on to the residents. The Garbage rate is a direct pass through of the cost HCMUD 370 pays Best Trash per household. In addition, HCMUD 370 has contributed over $25k of additional garbage charges specifically related to storm debris pick up which was not passed on to residents.
HCMUD 370 strives to provide high quality service in the areas of drinking water, sewer and garbage service, while providing timely and transparent communication on changes and charges to the residents the District serves.
